Have you ever wanted to see the bright blue water and pristine white sand of the Hamilton Island but heard it was too expensive to visit? Well, I’m here to tell you it doesn’t have to be!
Around March this year, I managed to see the most beautiful islands and beaches in the world – also known as ‘The Whitsundays’. In this post, I’ll reveal all the highlights and exclusive tips for seeing Hamilton Island in style and on a budget.
There’s no doubt about it, Hamilton Island is one of the most beautiful islands of the Whitsundays region. It’s also quite pricey, especially if you want to undertake activities to make your trip more memorable. So here’s my top tips for seeing the best of Hamilton Island…on a budget!
- Staying on the island can be beautiful, especially if you decide to rent a villa or holiday home – however accomodation on Hamilton is expensive. To cut down your costs, I recommend staying on the Queensland mainland in a town called Airlie beach. Airlie happens to be the gateway to the Whitsundays region and offers very affordable accomodation – from hostels and hotels, to caravan parks and air bnb properties.
- If you decide to stay in Airlie beach, you will need transport over to Hamilton Island. I highly recommend booking a shuttle service over to Hamilton Island – these services run daily from Port of Airlie and a number of companies operate a transfer ferry over. Cruise Whitsundays offer a great shuttle ferry over to both Hamilton and Daydream Island. This transfer service is approximately $50AUD return and offers free tea and coffee on board!
- Once you’re on the island, there are a number of affordable activities that you can undertake to see the sights of Hamilton. Taking a walking tour of the island is a great way to see the sights and gain some exercise with zero cost! Although Hamilton island is famous for its buggies, they can be quite costly. If you still want to see the island but can’t do so by foot, I recommend taking the free shuttle bus that operates and stops all over the island. Be sure to take the shuttle all the way to the top of the island for some great photo opportunities! Another fantastic way to see the sights is from the sea – renting a dingy is an affordable option to visit all parts of the island. Make it a day trip – grab some food, drinks and head over to Catseye Beach – the scenery won’t disappoint!
Stay tuned for my next post on Whitehaven Beach!
